2 PETER 2:1-2
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
There are many “Bible Teachers” not teaching what the Bible says. They often teach only positive messages and never talk about sin, the cross, or the blood of Christ. Based on this prophecy, we should see the number of false Bible teachers increase. Turn on your TV, look on the Internet and try to find a pastor that teaches verse by verse through the whole Bible, teaches within context, talks about sin, the cross and the blood of Christ. It seems there are very few but still a growing number of so called Bible Teachers.
We have a saying, “Context. Context. Context.” When we study the Bible, we need to study it based on the paragraphs around the portion you are studying (first context). Second, study with the whole book in mind and the context that the writer was in (second context). Lastly, take the whole Bible into consideration when you are studying (the third context). There are so many teachers out there teaching what they want to make people feel good. They might be teaching the Bible, but they may not be teaching the whole Bible. A couple of the Bible teachers I admire are Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and J. Vernon McGee. Both of these pastors teach verse by verse through the entire Bible. For each of them, it takes between five and six years to go through the entire Word of God.
If you are looking for a church, here are a couple of questions to ask:
1. Do you teach the Bible verse by verse? How long does it take you to get through the entire Bible? (Yes, they need to teach verse by verse so they don’t skip anything.)
2. When do you see the Rapture of the Church happening? (Their answer should be, “At any time now!” This question will tell you how seriously they take the Bible.)
